Sessions run 50 minutes and are available either in person at our Randwick rooms or via Telehealth on Zoom - whichever works best for you. Sessions are held on a regular basis, with a schedule agreed upon with your psychologist at the first appointment. Before your first session, you'll receive an intake form and consent form to complete.
The first session itself is focused on getting to know you and building an understanding of what's brought you to therapy. We will collaboratively explore your background, your current strengths and challenges, and discuss what a treatment plan might look like.
You don't need a referral to book, but if you'd like to claim a Medicare rebate you'll need a Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP) from your GP. Without one, you'll pay the full session fee of $280 privately, which is completely fine.
A Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP) is a document your GP writes that allows you to access Medicare rebates for psychology sessions.
Here's how it works:
Book a GP appointment, letting them know you'd like to discuss a Mental Health Treatment Plan so they can set aside enough time.
Your GP assesses and writes the plan. They'll ask about what's been going on and create a referral document for you. They will likely ask you to complete some questionnaires too.
Send us the referral. You can email this to us, or upload it to your Client Portal prior to your first session. You can also bring it to your initial appointment if that’s easier.
Claim your rebate. We process your Medicare rebate directly. You only pay the gap on the day.
A MHTP gives you access to up to 10 individual sessions per calendar year. After session 6, your GP will need to do a brief consultation with you before approving the remaining 4. While we can try to remind you when a review is coming up, it is up to you to make sure that your referral is up to date.
